It's difficult to believe a whole year has gone by and we're ready for our second year of spring migration.
We were excited about our first trip to Long Point and although we were disappointed that our chosen day was the only day that banding wasn't being done we still had a wonderful day. We quite impressed ourselves with our limited ability to identify the birds we saw. Our first day...on our own....we were able to identify 14 birds. A 15th was identified after consulting our books.
We made several day trips to Long Point during May, discovered some new birds, met some wonderful people but didn't get near as many photos as we would have liked.

We learned our lesson well last year, booked our hotel early this year and spent 3 glorious days at Point Pelee. Although we didn't get to take the bus tour for shore birds we saw an amazing array of birds within the park itself.
After our glimpse of an indigo bunting last year, my goal for this trip was to actually see one and get a decent photograph of it. Point Pelee park is 7 km long so we'd drive between different spots. It seemed that every time we'd be driving we'd spot the little guy along the side of the road...I'd try to convince Allan to stop but he had enough sense to say NO!!! For 3 days we chased the little guy and on our last day we finally saw one in a tree, singing his little heart out.
On our walks closer to home we've seen Cedar Wax Wings, usually at a distance and through binoculars. What a thrill to see so many just sitting in the trees waiting for me to come along and have a field day with the camera. They're even more beautiful up close!!!
There was a small marina near our hotel and as we were driving back for the evening I thought I saw something on a dock and asked Allan to pull in. WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Up close and personal with a Great Blue Heron.
Many happy memories from this trip and yes we're looking ahead to next year!
