The First Year

Living far away from your children is difficult enough but when your first grandchild is expected it is even harder. Imagine the phone ringing, waking you up early in the morning, and being told your daughter has gone into labour 6 weeks early.
Thankfully it was a Saturday, so after a rushed shower and throwing some clothes in a bag, soon to be grandma and step-grandpa were on the road. I remember how I had wished my mom was close by when I gave birth to Krista and how I hoped we would make it back home in time to offer our love and support. Sadly it wasn't to be, by the time we made it to the hospital Tyler had been whisked away to Civic Hospital in Ottawa...another hours drive.
There was no way anyone was keeping Krista from her son!! Next morning she was up and discharged real quick and we were all off to Ottawa. Due to SARS everyone had to sign in and we were advised Allan and I might not be able to see the baby as it was usually parents only in the neonatal unit especially during non visiting hours.

Tyler's first year was a lot of fun, Krista and Rob are wonderful parents!! Being long distance grand parents is just as tough as being a long distance parent...doesn't matter that my daughter is all grown up and a mother too, she'll always be my little girl.
If you would like to 'watch' Tyler growing please continue on to the next pages.
